On Response Poetry
There is a long tradition in poetry of poets writing in response to work that has inspired them, borrowing a line from one poem to begin or end a new poem. For natural disasters, there is a need to find an individual and collective voice often lost to trauma. Secondary trauma, felt by those witnessing the events, also needs a voice. In this collection of poetry, Ivey brings her own experience and wrestles with survivor guilt and wreckage, lived experience and shared mourning of the experience of a life changing natural disaster as the result of climate change.
