After: Poetic Reflections on Hurricane Helene
In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, nature's fury gives way to silence, resilience, and rebirth. This evocative collection of haiku captures the fleeting moments of destruction and renewal, weaving together the raw emotions and quiet beauty found in the storm's wake.
Each verse is a snapshot of survival: the fragile bloom rising from the rubble, the somber sky mirrored in floodwaters, and the whispers of hope carried by the wind. Rooted in the transformative power of expressive arts, After shows how creativity can serve as a bridge to recovery, helping us process loss and rediscover resilience.
Perfect for lovers of nature, poetry, and the human spirit, this collection reminds us that even after the darkest storms, there is light—and that art can guide us through to the other side.
The QR code is for any additional amount you feel called to donate in support of the free disaster support coaching I am providing through FLOURISH to hurricane Helene survivors. I have offered 6 sessions to 5 people, and am hoping to raise 7K to cover some of that cost. Thank you for your consideration.

On Response Poetry
There is a long tradition in poetry of poets writing in response to work that has inspired them, borrowing a line from one poem to begin or end a new poem. For natural disasters, there is a need to find an individual and collective voice often lost to trauma. Secondary trauma, felt by those witnessing the events, also needs a voice. In this collection of poetry, Ivey brings her own experience and wrestles with survivor guilt and wreckage, lived experience and shared mourning of the experience of a life changing natural disaster as the result of climate change.
